AuRico Gold’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy strives to ensure we deliver the best possible outcomes to all of our stakeholders. The health and safety of our employees and their families, the contributions to the communities where we work, and minimizing our impact on the environment are all at the core of our values and are important measures of our success.

HOME SAFE, EVERY DAY

Maintaining a safe workplace is fundamental to our success at AuRico Gold. In 2013, we developed and implemented our safety leadership program, Home Safe, Every Day. In 2014, we continued to advance the program at both our operations, with El Chanate moving onto phase two, “Courageous Conversations”, and Young-Davidson completing the Safety Leadership training with all new employees. At the end of March 2015, Young-Davidson had recorded over xx million hours LTI free. This represents a new record for Young-Davidson, and is a significant achievement as the site continues its ramp up to full production.

AuRico remains committed to ensuring a safe and healthy work environment. Our aim is for each and every employee to return home safely, each and every day.

ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP

AuRico seeks to minimize our environmental footprint through implementing environmentally responsible mining practices throughout all phases of the life cycles of our mines. We continually strive to improve our environmental performance by not only adhering to local laws and international environmental standards, but trying to surpass them. AuRico publicly reports our performance annually in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Guidelines, version 3.1.

PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Community involvement has always been a very important part of AuRico’s corporate responsibility program. We work hard to create and maintain positive and mutually beneficial relationships with all our community stakeholders, while continuously endeavoring to seek new opportunities that support a sustainable means of growth and development.

In the communities surrounding our El Chanate Mine, AuRico has continued our relationship with the Student Cooperative Farming Project, this year producing melons that were ultimately exported to the United States and Japan. We have also partnered with the Women’s Sewing Shop in the community of Ejido 16 de Septiembre, having them produce protective clothing for our mine employees and contractors. In association with this community, AuRico helped establish a daycare, creating an opportunity for women to work either at the mine or the sewing shop and earn an income for their families.
